Description: C.S. Lewis is one of the most renowned Christian writers and apologists of the early 20th century, and he has much to teach us beyond The Chronicles of Narnia. In this elective literature course, students will learn about Lewis’ spiritual formation, his marriage to Joy Davidman, and his friendship with J.R.R. Tolkien in C.S. Lewis: Creator of Narnia as well as read and be challenged by his diverse writings. In The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe and The Screwtape Letters, students will learn how Lewis uses allegorical writing to convey truth. Students will also see Lewis’ struggle with faith while dealing with loss and death with A Grief Observed. Finally, students will read The Great Divorce and the lectures of Mere Christianity to get a more complete view of Lewis’ theology and apologetics. Parents and students should be aware that the reading content and pace of this course is challenging before registering for it.
