Dear Parents,

Some of our classes us Google Classroom, which requires a CHATclasses.com email address.  (If you are enrolled in a class that needs this, the tutor will let you know.)  I have assigned CHATclasses.com email addresses to all students who need them, and if that's you, you received an email with their credentials.  Some students already have their email address from a previous school year.  This email is for those folks who already have creds from a previous year and have forgotten how to use it. (o:  Feel free to share with your kids if they need it. 

Here is that email...

G Suite for Education is part of our CHATclasses.com domain, and Google Classroom is part of the suite.  Google Classroom is an online grading system which is also a place for tutors to post files that students need for their classes, keeping them all in one place.   It can also be used to handle homework and assignments. 

Because your CHAT class is going to be using Google Classroom, you are going to need an email address that is within our CHATclasses.com domain.  This email will contain all of the information you need to set that up.  This email is going to parents and to the students whose email addresses were included in their online registration.  Parents, please make sure your student has this information. (Some parents did not include a student email address in their registration.)
Parents, we will leave it to how you want to handle the Google account credentials.  That is why we are including you on this information. (o:

Here is what you need to do:

Step 1:  Know Your Credentials
•    Your new email address and Google account will be:  (You should already have this info.)
 •    The password you will use the first time you sign is will be:  (You should already have this info.)
Special note to parents:  If you want to see your son/daughter's grades or progress in a class, you MUST KEEP THEIR LOG-IN INFORMATION! 

Step 2:  Sign In to Google and Join Your Class

The video below will show you how to sign in for the first time to your new Google account and join your class.  (Your tutor will email you with your class code.)  As part of the process you will be required to set a new password the first time you sign in.  Make sure to write that password down!!!  There is no password recovery option.  If you forget your password the G Suite Administrator (Mrs. Nelson) must manually reset it, and that added step may cause you to miss important class deadlines!

Step 3:  Get Acquainted with Google Classroom

The video below will guide you through the different aspects of using Google Classroom for your class.  Watch it and then let your tutor know if you have questions.  There is also a Quick Student Guide to Google Classroom pdf file for reference.  It is linked below.

Step 4 (Optional):  Forward Your Email to Your Personal Email Account
The video below will show you how to forward your CHATclasses.com email to your personal email account if you don’t want to have to check 2 email accounts.  It also shows how to set up a filter on your personal account to put a label on all forwarded CHATclasses.com emails that come in.
