Hi,

I'm looking forward to the Web Design class!  You can go ahead and purchase your book.  The title is Head First HTML with CSS, 2nd edition, by Elisabeth Robson & Eric Freeman (ISBN #978-0-596-15990-0).  It is selling used for $15-20 on half.com or new on amazon.com for $24.  Make sure the book is the 2nd edition. You can also get it at Barnes and Noble.

Computers:

For planning purposes, it would be helpful for me to know if you are using a mac or a pc, and what version of Windows you are use if a pc. They will need to bring their laptops to class every week.  Please email me with that information.

Text Editor Programs:

We will be using specific text editors for this class, depending on what type of computer you have.  You need to download and install the text editor program before the first day of class.

• The text editor we will use on Macs is called TextWrangler.  I have posted a youtube video at http://youtu.be/-ZtWRUiNOFU that gives instructions on how to download and install this program.  Add it to your dock, please.
• The text editor we will use on PCs running Windows is Notepad++.  I have posted a youtube video at http://youtu.be/MkLdwigOV6Q that gives instructions on how to download and install this program.  Make sure to add an icon to your desktop.

Homework:

I will be putting files that need to be transferred to the students' computers onto a jump drive.  We will use some of those files during class and some will be needed to complete their assignments. Other assignment files may be emailed to students.  The students' weekly assignments will always involve creating files on their computers and handing them in to me on their jump drives. They will usually have worksheets on paper to do as well.

Grades and online resources:

Students will be assigned a student number which you can use to check their grades online on the CHAT math website.  A copy of this email as well the download instructions for programs will also be posted there.  The address is www.mcg.net/nelson/chatmath.htm.
